Sporting club grants shaping healthier community venues
Applications have opened for Healthway's Summer Healthy Sporting Club Program.
Healthier community canteens and kiosks are the focus of the $200,000 grants program.
Local sporting clubs are encouraged to apply for a grant of up to $4,000 to support healthier food and drink choices at club-run canteens and kiosk
The initiative is co-ordinated with support from the Western Australian School Canteen Association (WASCA) promoting the Fuel to Go & Play message.
Clubs and canteen managers will work closely with WASCA to reform menus and participate in training activities to promote positive nutrition.
Canteen managers and volunteers will also complete food safety and hygiene training in line with COVID-19 food service guidelines.
Since the program started in 2019, Healthway has awarded over $530,000 in grants to 156 metropolitan and regional clubs.
The healthy clubs initiative has been successful in raising awareness and delivering the skills, knowledge and low-cost infrastructure to support healthier food and drink options in the community.
Applications for the 2020 Summer Healthy Sporting Club Program are now open and will close at 12 noon, Friday October 1, 2020.
