Restrictions on the sale of packaged liquor due to COVID-19 — Kimberley region
The Director of Liquor Licensing has reviewed the previous restrictions on liquor purchases in the Kimberley put in place to support measures taken due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
From Friday 19 March 2021, licences in the Kimberley region are subject to a condition that the licence does not authorise the sale of packaged liquor in excess of the following quantities per customer per day:
- 11.25 litres (one carton) of beer, cider or pre-mixed spirits; or
- 2.25 litres (3 bottles) of wine; or
- 1 litre of spirits*; or
- 1 litre of fortified wine; or
- a combination of any two of (i), (ii), (iii) or (iv) above but not a combination of two of the same product.
These conditions will apply to hotel, hotel restricted, tavern, liquor store, producers*, club, wholesaler (where the sale of liquor is to the general public) and special facility licences.
Exemptions apply to sales to tourists, pastoralists, station owners and operators of remote work camps.
In addition, customers can order bulk purchases of liquor where the order is made at least 72 hours in advance of pickup/delivery.
It is important to note that these restrictions are in addition to any other licence conditions and if there is a conflict or inconsistency between a condition imposed by the notice and any other condition, the more onerous condition prevails. This is particularly relevant in areas where section 64 liquor restrictions apply.
The restrictions are being imposed to further support measures already taken by the government in respect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
*Producers of spirits operating under a producers licence or special facility licence can sell packaged liquor up 2.25 litres of spirits produced by the licensee per customer per day.
