Improving occupational recognition across the nation
A new national Automatic Mutual Recognition (AMR) of Occupational Registration scheme will be in place for a limited number of occupations in New South Wales, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory from 1 July, 2021.
The AMR scheme will remove the need for a worker to apply and pay for a new licence or registration when working in another State or Territory.
This will make it easier for business owners, tradespeople and other licensed or registered professionals to work in multiple states and territories.
The scheme will be progressively introduced to other states, including Western Australia, subject to the passing of further legislation.
More occupations will be added in the future as Australian states and territories transition to the new scheme.
Safeguards in the AMR scheme will maintain existing standards of consumer and environmental protection, animal welfare, and the health and safety of workers and the public.
