Linga Longa Mountain Bike Club creating a legacy
The Linga Longa Mountain Bike Club received Active Regional Communities funding to support their club members and leaders to become accredited coaches in mountain biking.
The idea came about when the club ran a Women’s Mountain Bike Festival last year. As there limited number of accredited coaches in WA that could run the event, the number of people that could attend was also limited. This meant there was a far greater demand for tickets than could be supplied.
With an Active Regional Communities grant, the club can address this missed opportunity by putting measures in place to support club members/leaders to become accredited coaches in mountain biking at a level that can facilitate progression within the sport.
While the Linga Longa Mountain Bike Club is still a fledgling club, the support in this project will build capacity within the club and enable programs such as school holiday activities and the Trail Bliss women’s festival to continue at their full potential. The club are working at engaging more women, youth and people with disabilities into the sport by providing a safe, inclusive and knowledgeable coaching and club structure with a view to making mountain biking a sport for all.
