The State Government has awarded more than $92,000 in funding to two local music recipients — a 2017 and 2021 election commitment — through its Contemporary Music Fund (CMF).

The CMF allows homegrown contemporary music artists to capitalise on opportunities and contribute to the development of markets for Western Australia.

A three-day mentorship program for early career music managers and self-managed musicians — Sound States Mentorship Program 2023 — was awarded $35,750 in funding.

The program will be delivered by music manager Hayley Ayres through 360 Artist Logistics during February 2023 at the Fremantle Arts Centre.

Local Perth band, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, received $56,768 for their 2022 Tour of North America. Starting in October 2022 and featuring 25 shows across the United States, Canada and Mexico, the tour will allow the band to promote their work while building links internationally.

The next round of CMF funding will be available in July 2023. Prior to that, applicants can apply to the general arts funding programs.
