WA Recovery Plan funding supports Donnybrook recreation precinct redevelopment
Extensive redevelopment of the Donnybrook Community Sporting, Recreation and Entertainment Precinct is on track to begin in October this year, using $6 million in funding from the State Government’s WA Recovery Plan.
The State Government allocated funding towards the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup’s project in 2020, which has an estimated total cost of $9 million.
The shire initially received $250,000 of the WA Recovery Plan funding, to be used towards planning, project management and design. With the contract now awarded to Perkins Builders, the agreement has been signed to commit the remaining contribution of $5.75 million towards the construction works.
The redevelopment includes the co-location of sport and recreation clubs into one multipurpose facility accommodating year-round sport, recreation and community activity.
The project includes the construction of a new multipurpose pavilion plus the extension and refurbishment of an existing pavilion, with an anticipated completion date of December 2024.
The facility will cater to a wide range of sports including football, tennis, netball, hockey and basketball.
