The 2023 Hockey Australia Masters Championships kicks off in Perth today, bringing thousands of passionate hockey players and supporters to Western Australia.
The championships, run by Hockey Australia, brings together nearly 1900 people from 140 teams around the country to compete in men's, women's and over 50s tournaments across 6 venues and 7 pitches.
For the first time, the 2023 event combines both the women's and men's championships across the following dates:
- Women's Masters — Friday 22 September to Saturday 30 September
- Men's Over 34s-45s — Saturday 23 September to Sunday 1 October
- Over 50s through to Over 80s — Thursday 28 September to Saturday 7 October.
The majority of championship matches and the main event hub will be held at Perth Hockey Stadium in Bentley, the home of hockey in Australia.
Matches will also be held at other venues throughout the tournament, including Melville Toyota Hockey Stadium, Troy Pickard Hockey Centre in Warwick, Lakelands Hockey in Fremantle, Shenton College and Aquinas College.
The 2-week event will provide a great boost to local tourism and hospitality businesses, adding to other mass participation events held in WA this year including the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships, Australian Surf Life Saving Championships and UCI Mountain Bike Marathon Masters World Championships, which attract thousands of out-of-State visitors and support the local economy.
