New Play Well strategy boosts inclusive sports participation
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has launched Play Well, Australia’s Sport Participation Strategy, to foster inclusive and diverse sporting environments and experiences nationwide.
This strategy aims to revolutionise sports participation across communities through the vision that everyone has a place in sport.
Play Well promotes the creation of safe, inclusive, and enjoyable sporting environments for individuals of all ages, backgrounds, genders, and abilities under 6 categories:
- empowering people and organisations
- driving lifelong involvement
- activating places and spaces
- building connections
- equitable access
- transforming culture.
To accompany the strategy, the ASC has opened the Play Well Participation Grant Program, with $10.3 million in funding available.
Sporting bodies and physical activity providers delivering programs that address barriers to participation and increase long-term involvement in sport, are encouraged work with their national organisations to apply for funding to develop new initiatives to increase participation of all Western Australians.
Local Government are also eligible to apply for funding for events such as ‘come and try days’ and multisport festivals.
The Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries proudly supports the Play Well strategy, providing input into its development, and will be working closely with the WA sporting sector to identify opportunities to support the strategy's implementation.
Applications for the Play Well Participation Grant Program are open now until 23 February 2024.
