Reminder: Good Friday trading
Under the Liquor Control Act 1988 (the Act), the specified trading hours for Good Friday are treated differently.
Generally, the sale of liquor can only occur between 12 noon and 10pm, instead of 6am to 12 midnight, and must be ancillary to a meal supplied by the licensee.
Licensees wishing to trade on Good Friday without the requirement for liquor
to be sold or supplied ancillary to a meal, may lodge an application for an occasional liquor licence at least 14 days prior to the event or function where special circumstances apply.
Special circumstances include events and shows. General trade is not
considered special circumstances.
Examples of special circumstances include the following:
- AFL game at Optus Stadium
- WAFL home games
- official race meetings
- large scale sporting events
- private events such as a wedding
- live music events or special guest appearances
- remote wet mess canteens.
If you have any questions about Good Friday, please contact one of our Racing, Gaming and Liquor officers on 61 8 6551 4888 or at rgl@dlgsc.wa.gov.au
Update
Because of increased interest in applications for an occasional liquor licence to trade on Good Friday, the Director of Liquor Licensing is extending the application lodgement cut off to 4:30pm Monday 18 March.
In lodging
the application, applicants must include details of the special event or function that is being offered, and the time and duration so the licence can reflect trading times to match.
Please ensure the payment of the application is made at
the time of lodgement to avoid disappointment.
