Arts funding to benefit young creatives, writers and musicians
The State Government is investing $1.6million in 3 arts organisations over the next 2 financial years in its latest show of support to the Western Australian arts sector.
Under the Arts Strategic Initiatives grant program, administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), the following funding is being provided for the current and next financial year:
- $150,000 per annum for Writing WA to advocate, research, promote, communicate and be the peak body for writing and literature in Western Australia;
- $150,000 per annum for Propel Youth Arts WA to deliver support for youth arts including the KickstART Festival and PIVOT professional development initiative; and
- $500,000 for West Australian Music Industry Association (WAM) to deliver priority support services for the contemporary music sector.
The funding allocations come after an online survey of Western Australia’s arts and cultural sector in late 2023. The survey received 624 responses from creative artists, organisations, and a range of arts workers. Results showed the top priorities for the sector as: income generation, capacity building and advocacy.
The consultation helped the State Government to decide how to best support the arts in WA.
