Until now, local governments across Western Australia have had to comply with the same financial reporting requirements, even though local governments range from less than 200 residents to more than 200,000.
These amendments support the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ Model Financial Statements guidance materials and templates for 2022-23 meaning tiered, simplified, standardised and reduced reporting requirements for Western Australian local governments.
Local government reforms currently being implemented in Western Australia are aimed at ensuring local governments better serve residents and ratepayers.
The reforms have been crafted in consultation with the local government sector and are the most significant in 25 years.
