Creativity and Wellbeing for Young People

Supporting projects for children and young people to engage in authentic creative and artistic experiences, promoting positive social and emotional wellbeing.

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Healthway recognises the importance of providing opportunities for children and young people to engage in authentic creative and artistic experiences, promoting positive social and emotional wellbeing.

The program will support the engagement of creative practitioners to use the arts as a vehicle to reach priority communities and increase opportunities for young people to engage in continuous creative activities to encourage agency, creativity, connection and resilience while supporting their overall mental, social and emotional wellbeing.

Stage 1: Expressions of interest

To be invited to apply for a Creativity and Wellbeing for Young people grant, you will first need to submit an overview of your project concept, relevance and alignment to the objectives. Expressions of interest are due no later than 4pm Thursday 6 February 2025.

Stage 2: Application Invitation

Successful expressions of interest will be invited to apply to the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Healthway through the submission of a funding request. Applicants will be advised of the submission deadline upon notification of the outcome of their expression of interest.

Program objectives

  • Provide opportunities for participation and engagement in arts and creative activities for young people in Western Australia.
  • Foster positive social, emotional and mental wellbeing outcomes for young people participating in arts and creative activities.
  • Increase the long-term sustainability of employment opportunities for artists delivering and creating work with young people.
  • Increase accessibility and engagement of creative experiences for young people with a particular focus on those who identify as: Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD), LBGTQIA+, or are impacted by a level of socio-economic disadvantage.

Competitive projects will demonstrate alignment to all program objectives.

Applications are open to:

  • Western Australian-based* arts and/or cultural organisations
  • Western Australian-based* creative practitioners
  • local government authorities
  • Western Australian-based* not-for-profit community organisations and/or not-for-profit community service organisations.

 *Must have a Western Australian office, or be currently residing in Western Australia, with a Western Australian address.

Eligible applicants will be able to apply for up to $75,000 for projects and/or programs.

This program may fund up to 80% of your activity costs. You must demonstrate at least 20% income (either in-kind or cash) or your expression of interest will be ineligible.

TheatreBlack Swan State Theatre Company LtdBlack Swan Creative Ground Holiday Workshop ProgramBlack Swan's Creative Ground Workshops are a series of immersive arts activities for young people, aged 10 -17yrs, delivered in Albany, Port Hedland and Geraldton during 2024 - 2025 school holidays. The program's primary goal is to strengthen social-emotional learning of participants, deepen a sense of connection, belonging and agency. 75,000
Community arts and cultural developmentBoss Arts Creative Aboriginal Arts and Culture Program The Program involves delivering school holiday workshops for young and emerging Indigenous artists in the areas of contemporary and traditional Indigenous performance and visual arts. Led by prominent Nyoongar performer Della Rae Morrison and working with a diverse group of Indigenous community with ages from 10 years and up, the workshop series is designed to promote greater engagement of marginalised Indigenous community in the arts and to empower the expression of Australian Indigenous cultures through performance.75,000

Community arts and cultural developmentRavensthorpe Arts CouncilARTitude Adventures: Creative Play for Social WellnessThe project will further enhance the accessibility and outreach of the Artitude program and create an inclusive pilot Creative Play Program specifically designed for school students in Years 1, 3 and 4 at the Hopetoun Primary School. Community arts and cultural developmentEllenbrook ArtsArts Creativity and Wellbeing for Young People The project is a collaborative workshop series between Ellenbrook Arts and the Ellenbrook Youth Centre. Providing a creative outlet for expression and self-discovery, the project aims to improve the mental health and overall well-being of the participants. The culmination of the workshop series will be a public exhibition and event hosted at the Ellenbrook Art Gallery, showcasing material created by participating youth in a range of disciplines, including visual arts and performance.75,000
