Media release
It is 'game on' these school holidays with Western Australia's first ever virtual reality festival kicking off today (July 6).
XR:WA invites audiences to explore and experience virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, computer animations and other forms of screen-based and immersive media.
The week-long festival is made up of a broad range of films, exhibits, talks and workshops to suit participants of all ages.
Among the many school holiday activities is the much-loved Antarctica Experience and the chance to use a headset to visit a virtual undersea world.
There are also opportunities for virtual game play and 360-degree cinematic experiences that explore indigenous song and dance, climate change and more.
The festival includes a three-day industry conference at the Pan Pacific hotel that brings together local, interstate and international delegates, and will help the immersive and games sector grow its global networks.
Local developers are already creating games for the world stage including for big platforms such as Nintendo and Sony PlayStation. XR:WA is showcasing their talent with an emporium for participants to see and play local games.
XR:WA is on now until July 14 at venues across Perth and Fremantle.
