Results from the 2020 Arts and Culture Monitor are in — showing Western Australians have strong public support for the value of the State’s culture and the arts activities.

The survey is focused on attendance levels for arts and cultural activities, public support and attitudes toward the arts and the role culture and arts plays for West Australians and their communities.

It is an annual, independent survey commission through the department since 2001. The survey provides valuable historical data for the culture and arts sector and government.

Research company Catalyse Pty Ltd carried out the 2019 Arts and Culture Monitor, providing a sample of 1385 respondents — 64% from metropolitan areas and 36% from regional areas in WA.

Some key insights from the 2020 report:

  • 76% say that arts and culture is valuable for the community
  • 81% say that the arts make them feel good
  • 94% say it’s important for children to access arts and cultural activities as part of their education.
