With the support of an Active Regional Communities grant, the studio delivered introductory and upskilling classes for volunteers so that they can assist students as their dance partners during performances. The grant also supported coaches to gain required
accreditations within the sport to better meet the needs of the students.
Recent performances – including at Telethon in October last year – have helped the students to improve their confidence. Jarrod and Emma are two students leading the way – they’ve picked up new skills, learned how to dance as a
partnership and developed new techniques for their own dance. They also assisted new students in a recent come and try day.
A legacy of the support from the Active Regional Communities program is that all the students are now working towards more performances and some of the new students have the ambition to participate in DanceSport competitions in the future. With new volunteers
now assisting regularly, those students have more opportunities to achieve these aspirations.
