The 2023 World Transplant Games will take place from 15-21 April and aims to promote organ and tissue donation to improve access to life-saving transplants, while also providing a platform for transplant recipients to compete in a range of sporting events.

About 2000 from around the world will compete in the games over 7 days.

Out-of-State and local athletes will compete at the seven-day event, which has the potential to attract more than a thousand visitors and millions of dollars in visitor spend for the State.

Deputy Premier and Tourism Minister Roger Cook joined World Transplant Games Federation CEO Chris Thomas today alongside donor recipients and their families.

The games will feature 16 different sports including swimming, athletics, tenpin bowling, table tennis and cycling.

Athletes will compete at Western Australia's world-class sporting venues, including HBF Stadium, WA Athletics Stadium, Bendat Basketball Centre, Gold Netball Centre and Champion Lakes Regatta Centre, with the opening ceremony to take place at the award-winning Optus Stadium.

A series of related events including cultural activities, donor recognition opportunities and a gala dinner will also showcase Perth's world-class hospitality and tourism offerings on a global stage.

The 2023 World Transplant Games is supported by the WA Government through Tourism WA, and the Department of Health, VenuesWest, Lotterywest and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

Supporting mass participation events such as the World Transplant Games is a key part of Tourism WA's events strategy to attract more visitors to the State.

The games have only been held twice in Australia in the past 25 years.
