Intro
The event is supported by the State Government and will take place from 26 to 28 January 2024 and again in 2025 at HBF Park.
Previously known as the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, HSBC SVNS attracts the world's top rugby nations to play an alternative rugby union format which involves 7 players competing in 7-minute halves in a tournament format with round robin and knockout matches over 3 days.
The sport has a strong following in many of WA's key international inbound tourism markets including the United Kingdom, Singapore, China and the United States.
12 men's and 12 women's national teams will go head-to-head in 7 regular season events, with round 3 set to take place in Perth plus a grand final.
The other 7 rounds will take place in Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Cape Town, Madrid, Vancouver and Los Angeles, placing WA on a global stage as a world-leading host of major sporting events.
The top 8 placed teams, based on cumulative series points following the penultimate round of SVNS in Singapore, will compete in the new 'winner takes all' Grand Final in Madrid, where the women's and men's SVNS champions will take the trophy.
A fan festival will surround the Perth event to build on the rugby fever and provide a carnival-like hub for visitors and locals to enjoy before, during and after the matches.
World Rugby has launched a 'Destination: SVNS' campaign to promote the new SVNS brand as an unmissable summer event with an exciting program of activities, entertainment and immersive experiences.
HSBC SVNS was established in 1999 and has continued to grow in popularity, with the event elevated to the Olympic Games in 2016.
