$650,000 will pay for works to ensure the roof is secure at the Great Southern venue, which sits within a harsh ocean front environment where strong winds and salt affect the building.
It comes after an engineering report in late 2023 recommended improvements to prevent the roof deteriorating. The State Government has responded swiftly by funding and contracting a construction company to carry out the important maintenance.
The Minister for Culture and the Arts said that this indicates the State Government’s commitment to keeping this important community venue open and available to the people of the Great Southern.
Manager Albany Entertainment Centre, Drew Dymond added: 'Works such as these were so important and ensure our world-class venue will be maintained for the ongoing enjoyment of the community, for many years to come!'
The Department of Finance published details of the contract being awarded to Colab Construction, on the TendersWA website.
The roof remediation works are scheduled for completion in mid-2024. Other stages of the project to upgrade Albany Entertainment Centre will follow.
This is a Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) Infrastructure project. The venue is owned and managed by DLGSC statutory authority the Arts and Culture Trust (ACT).
