LG Alert
The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (the Royal Commission) recognised the important role that local governments play in building a community approach to improve, and maintain, child safety and wellbeing.
To support this, the Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) has released the Local Government Child Safety Self-assessment.
The self-assessment is designed to assist local governments to strengthen their child safe practices and understand the Royal Commission child safe reforms that they are responsible for implementing.
Completion of the self-assessment will provide local government staff with access to support and resources relevant to their level of child engagement, as well as providing DLGSC with important data to plan the next stages of its work with the sector including the development of additional tailored supports.
DLGSC is requesting the self-assessment is only completed once by local government staff who understand the range of services that are provided to children and young people by Wednesday 31 July 2024.
If you have any questions about completing the self-assessment, you can contact DLGSCโs Child Safeguarding Implementation Unit by email at childsafeguarding@dlgsc.wa.gov.au
