ICIP in Music workshop participants had the opportunity to learn about working with, and building inclusive frameworks for, Indigenous cultural content at eight workshops between 30 September and 3 October 2024.

The Australian Music Centre (AMC) released its First Nations Cultural Policy for Represented Artists, the first of its kind in Australia, in 2023 with the aim to guide the acknowledgement and attribution of ICIP in music creation. The ICIP in Music sessions aim to raise awareness about the policy to ensure appropriate permissions and acknowledgements are attributed to relevant musical works.

Three of the Boorloo sessions were open to the public and the remaining workshops focused on education-based institutions including UWA, WAAPA and TAFE. Further workshops are planned for 5 and 6 November, which will take the policy’s learnings to regional and remote Western Australia in a virtual format.

The workshops are supported through the State Government’s Contemporary Music Fund, administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and are presented in partnership with the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO).
