In November 2024, NRL WA hosted the 2024 WA Harmony Cup, bringing together more than 1400 players, volunteers and supporters to participate in a weekend of culture and sport.
More than just a sporting opportunity, the Harmony Cup offers a unique platform for communities to showcase and celebrate their cultures together: to meet, connect and empower one another.
Attracting a huge multicultural audience, the competitive rugby league tournament hosted more than 70 teams across different gender and age groups representing cultures from Fiji, Samoa, The Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, New Zealand, First Nations Australians, and Great Britain.
NRL WA General Manager John Sackson said the key beliefs of the NRL were to be inclusive, positive, united, and disciplined.
“The 2024 WA Harmony Cup achieved this by enriching the community and countering discrimination and racism, and by promoting inclusion, respect and harmony within society,” he said.
NRL WA received $20,000 through the Sport and Recreation Events Funding Program to host the 2024 WA Harmony Cup. They were one of 27 organisations who received a total of $915,290 in funding from the 2024–25 round.
Administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), the program offers funding support up to $50,000 for organisations to develop, plan and host events within WA.
The Sport and Recreation Events Funding Program is currently open and accepting applications, closing on Monday 10 February 2025.
DLGSC is proud to support initiatives that connect WA’s communities and contribute towards making WA the best place to live in Australia.
