The Wild Swimming Experience project built resilience and reduced barriers to get more women swimming in oceans and rivers in a safe and nurturing environment. The project targeted women who may not have had the opportunity to participate in informal ocean or river swimming, known as wild swimming. Another key objective of the project along with increasing inclusive participation opportunities was to develop social connections.

The project was delivered in the South West and Great Southern region with 30 two hours sessions delivered and a total of 268 participants benefiting from the program. The sessions provided an introduction to swimming, focusing on the basics of technique and safety aspects of swimming in oceans and rivers. Participants had the opportunity to gain skills and confidence in a supportive, nurturing environment.

"I can't even begin to describe the exhilaration I feel when I dive into the water. It's like entering a whole new world, filled with endless possibilities. The unpredictable nature of the ocean has pushed me to become a better swimmer, constantly adapting and honing my skills. It's in these moments that I truly connect with nature and gain a profound appreciation for the forces in nature." - Mary, 45

For me, ocean swimming is the ultimate escape from the ordinary. There's something truly magical about immersing yourself in the wildness of the ocean. The ever-changing tides, currents, and waves create a sense of wonder and awe, making each swimming experience captivating and exhilarating. It's like being part of a grand symphony conducted by nature itself!— Maria, 75
