Steering Committee

Culture is at the heart of this project, as is the commitment of the State Government to work in partnership with Aboriginal people on projects and services that affect them and their communities.

In a milestone for a major State Government infrastructure project, the structure of the Steering Committee includes Aboriginal members who provide cultural knowledge, guidance, and direction for the project.

During the business case phase of the project the Whadjuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre Cultural Authority (WACCCA) were the foundational members of the Steering Committee, recognising their role as the centre’s host nation.

Following a wide-reaching expression of interest process, the project’s Steering Committee has been expanded to 7 members, with a particular focus on Aboriginal community members from across WA, to support the project definition stage of the Centre’s development.

The Aboriginal appointees to the Steering Committee are:

  • Ms Lorraine Coppin
  • Mr Anthony (Tony) Lee
  • Ms Carol Martin OAM
  • Ms Cheryl Martin
  • Mr John McGuire
  • Ms Taliah Payne
  • Mr Barry Winmar

The expanded Steering Committee membership is joined by the Premier’s Parliamentary Secretary Jessica Stojkovski MLA who is appointed as the Steering Committee Chair as well as 7 representatives from State Government agencies and one from the Australian Government
