WA’s 234 public libraries provide a vital service, enabling people to stay connected, get quick information and participate in the local community.
The importance of libraries was recently celebrated with the re-signing of the State and Local Government Partnership Agreement for the provision of public library services.
Hon John Day, Chair of the State Library Board of Western Australia, Minister for Local Government David Templeman, City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts and Local Government Professionals State President Mr Jamie Parry signed the agreement. It was first signed in 2004, by Hon Sheila McHale during the Gallop Government.
The agreement — the third in 16 years — sees State and local government recognise the need for a current, overarching agreement, providing adequately for the future direction of the State’s public library services.
It places an emphasis on joint decision making, and accountability by both tiers of government to ensure that the delivery of public library services in WA is efficient and effective.
