Intro

Nurses and patients sitting on a hospital bed and standing next to it

The 8-part observational documentary series looks at the amazing work of 2 of Perth’s busiest hospitals as they care for children from across all parts of Western Australia. Many arrive through the doors of the Emergency Department for urgent, life-saving treatment. Others are flown thousands of kilometres for operations that will change their lives.

Throughout the series, specialist doctors and nursing teams deal with every emergency imaginable, from a bead stuck up a nose to a brain tumour. Each unpredictable day brings a new set of dramas.

Children’s Hospital is produced by Chris Blackburn, with Julia Redwood and Jules Fortune of Western Australian production company Prospero Productions executive producing. Prospero has made quality, multi-award-winning documentaries and documentary series for over 30 years, including Outback Truckers, Outback Opal Hunters and Only in Oz.

"Children's Hospital is more about people than medicine. Folk who are going about their daily business and then suddenly find themselves in a hospital with a sick or injured child. The way the doctors and nurses come to their assistance, comforting and fixing them when they are at their most vulnerable." — Chris Blackburn, Series Producer.

Principal production funding for the series was provided through Screenwest and Lotterywest.

Production credit: Children’s Hospital is an 8-part series produced by Prospero Productions for Channel 9 and UKTV. Principal production funding from Screenwest and Lotterywest.
