Round 2 recipients announced for Perth CBD activation grants with an image of an evening night market

Youth focused events, markets, festivals, and artistic performances are just some of the applications from round 1, which attracted more than 70 applications. Some of the successful applications from Round 1 include:

  • Summer Jam Perth — an outdoor basketball tournament featuring some of the best basketballers in the country
  • Macula at Cathedral Square — projections of Aboriginal art and storytelling
  • Twilight Dinner — a public dinner held at a secret location with up to 2500 guests
  • Telethon Family Festival — a full-day, family friendly festival to mark Telethon Weekend, extending along Wellington Street with road closures connecting Elders Street to Yagan Square
  • Perth City Festival of Football — will bring together people from all walks of life to enjoy football and more
  • Pride FEST — free events in Northbridge to celebrate the LGBTQIA community.

The CBD Revitalisation Grant Program offers up to $100,000 in funding for eligible events, with round 2 now open.

The State Government's investment is part of a $12 million package aimed at increasing foot traffic in the Perth CBD and Northbridge, with the intention of making the city more connected, active, and an attractive place to live, work, visit or play.  

Applications are assessed against criteria of economic impact, activation, and capability to deliver. 

Eligible businesses, not-for-profits, and property owners with ideas for events held in the Perth CBD and Northbridge that will be held by 30 March 2023 can apply for grants in round 2, which closes at 5pm on 1 October 2022.

The third and final round of applications will be open from 1 February to 1 March, for events to be held by 30 June 2023.

Telethon Family FestivalThe Telethon Weekend 26-hour broadcast will take place at RAC Arena. WA Strongman and Strongwoman State Championships 2022

This will mark the end of our sporting season for 2022 and it will be the biggest competition of the year. It is the State championships for the sport of strongman to win the title of WA's Strongest Man and Woman of 2022. This will be draw a huge crowd with a great atmosphere! This competition will allow eligibility for a national competition invite for our athletes.

Christmas Sand SculptureA massive 4-5m tall sand sculpture is being built in Elizabeth Quay, by the world's best sand sculptors. Delighting the young and the young at heart. Come see as simple sand is intractably carved into fine art. One side of the sculpture depicts the nativity scene, carved in the tradition of the old masters, while the other side has a fun Santa's surprise for the kids. Affinity at Cathedral SquareTo encourage visitation to the east end of the CBD, Cathedral Square presents Affinity for its WA debut! Free to all audiences, Affinity is an immersive, light and sound installation inspired by the brain. With 112 interaction points, 70 light globes represent neurons in the brain. As audiences touch each light colours change, the more interaction, the further light travels throughout the sculpture. FIFA World Cup Series

Watch the FIFA World Cup Series Live and Loud in the venue, then see the finals in the laneway (Zemplias Street) for a World Cup Laneway Viewing. The Ellington Jazz Club presents: Brass with a Bang!The first Friday of every month from October to December, The Ellington Jazz Club will present two high energy jazz bands in the amphitheatre area of Yagan Square, to coincide with the end of the work week and late night shopping in the city. Macula at Cathedral SquareFollowing its success at VIVID 2022, Macula will debut in Perth at Cathedral Square showcasing sustainability and Aboriginal storytelling. Macula juxtaposes the natural world and the ‘concrete jungle’ in the historic heart of Perth. A spiralling tunnel of natural bamboo, Aboriginal art is projected onto the structure, alongside building projections within the precinct. Stellar LightsStellar Lights is a place-responsive, choreographed drone light and sound show presented in the night sky in Cathedral Square. This free community show is a destination event, bringing the stories of local Aboriginal artists to life for everyone to see and hear. Shard3 magnificent multi-faceted light structures will energise the Cultural Centre in the weeks over the festive season and the quiet evenings before Fringe Festival. James Street Activation ProgramHeld on 4 weekends, the James Street Activation Program will provide family-friendly, inclusive entertainment within the Northbridge precinct to activate the closure of James between William and Lake Streets to increase the overall appeal, vibrancy, safety and amenity of the area.
