Kalin Lane has always been an avid sports fan. Growing up in Walpole, KidSport supported Kalin to play basketball and football for his local teams.

“Sport has always been a source of good fun and enjoyment for me and my family,” he said.

“I love the culture of team sports and the bonds you create with your teammates, playing in tough competitions and the memories you gain from winning the big games.”

“KidSport was very useful to me and my family growing up. The costs associated with high level junior sport can be very overwhelming.”

KidSport enabled Kalin to focus on his dream of becoming a professional football player — and at over 200cm tall he’s a natural ruckman. In 2019 Kalin started with Claremont Football Club in the WA Football League.

“There’s no better feeling than representing your club surrounded by 21 of your best mates. I always feel excited when I play.”

Kalin had his sight set on the AFL and earlier this year was drafted to the Brisbane Lions.

“The expectations of an elite athlete have certainly improved my character and the social standards I hold for myself. You have to consider yourself as a role model and be responsible at all times.”

“KidSport has certainly helped me to pursue my dreams. I’m not looking to become the best football player ever, but I’d like to have a long and substantial AFL career and retire into physical education teaching.”

“I just want to get the most out of myself.”
