Being active in your older years can improve your physical, mental and emotional well-being. It also helps maintain and build new friendships through being an active part of the community.

Seniors Recreation Council

Seniors playing with a ballThe department supports the Seniors Recreation Council of WA (SRC), which is recognised as the peak body for organisations supporting seniors' involvement sport and recreation.

This volunteer-driven organisation delivers services to seniors in WA that encourage the over-45s to participate in sport, recreation and associated physical and mental activities. Their nine branches focus on participation, policy development, community leadership promotion and the over-45s potential for community contribution.  

The SRC collaborates with the department and many other stakeholders to offer a number of services and events across the state, including:  

  • Advice and support in establishing new recreational based groups for seniors.
  • Support to expand existing active recreation groups.
  • Coordination and fostering of projects which will contribute to the opportunities for over 45s to participate in recreational activities.
